The Adirondack Flames are a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League. They are based in Glens Falls, New York and play their home games at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Before the 2014-15 season they were known as the Abbotsford Heat. The Flames' logo is similar to the Atlanta Flames, who today are known as the Calgary Flames.

History[]

The team played five seasons as the Abbotsford Heat before relocating to Glens Falls, New York on May 5, 2014. There is a contract with both the Calgary Flames and Glens Falls and that means that the Adirondack Flames will run as the AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames for three seaons, and after the contract runs out there is an option for the team to run for another two seasons.

Since Abbotsford relocated to Adirondack there will still be an AHL team in Glens Falls, because the former team that played in Adirondack, the Adirondack Phantoms relocated to Allentown, Pennsylvania and became the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

The team's mascot was going to be "Scorch", but controversy started after the video introducing the team's mascot. Controversy started, because in the video it shows Scorch, believed to be the last unextinguished flame from a fire that happened in Glens Falls in 1846 overwhelming a firefighter and making him fall to the ground.
